BAIC Philippines makes a huge statement with the launch of two new models and ties up with Supagard.28/10/2018 Introducing the new renegade BJ20 crossover (available from BAIC Philippines Makati with Supagard's Polysilazane exterior protection applied as standard), and the competitively priced, newly refined M50S people mover.
"It's time to take a real look at BAIC both in terms of the quality that they deliver and value that the brand represents". reflector discs which are topped by corner arrays of daylight running lights (DRLs) and underscored by park lights bedded deep in a big-boned bumper all of which combine to create a look, unlike any other crossover.
The BJ20 boasts 215mm of ground clearance (the highest in its class), large 225/55 tires on 18" alloy rims, front-mounted engine, and front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout allows for a fully independent suspension system with McPherson struts up front and multi-links in the back that doesn't just keep the ride smooth and even but also provides enough articulation to keep both drive wheels in contact with the ground even on moderately uneven surfaces. The FWD compact crossover SUV is powered by the well-proven and Euro 5 compliant Mitsubishi 4A91T turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine that comes with that maker's trademark MIVEC variable-valve-timing (VVT) system that optimizes the engine's intake, allowing turbo-boost to peak both earlier and longer than on previous generation turbos. The engine delivers some serious power with torque numbers that look like they should be coming from a turbodiesel rather than a petrol burner, turbocharged or not. The BJ20's turbocharged engine was specified as much for efficiency as for performance. The turbocharger gives the driver the reassurance of having that extra kick as needed and when idling in bumper-to-bumper traffic, it burns fuel like a regular 1.5-liter gasoline engine. The BJ20's designers also finessed the transmission incorporating a CVT (continuously variable transmission) which keeps the engine turning without let-up during acceleration, not needing to ease off the gas for up-shifts, and keeping the turbocharger charged with engine revs. The BJ20 weighs in at a meaty ton and a half when empty, but delivers impressive fuel efficiency numbers and attained an average of 13.15 kilometers per liter. List prices for the BJ20 crossover SUV are PhP1.148M for the 1.5L Turbo CVT Standard variant and PhP1.288M for the 1.5L Turbo CVT Luxury edition. Both variants, sold by BAIC Makati, will come with their exterior fully protected by Supagard’s world-leading Polysilazane 'glass' coating as standard. Supagard's interior protection will also be available as an optional extra. List prices for the M50S compact MPV are PhP638,000 for the 7 or 8-seat Luxury variant and PhP668,000 for the 7-seat Ultra-Luxury version. Supagard's exterior and interior protection is also available for any other model in the BAIC range including, of course, the new M50S.
